MEDICAL SERVICES IN HUATULCO

In Mexico, healthcare is divided between two distinct paths: the public system (such as IMSS), built to serve the citizenry through state-funded hospitals and clinics, and the private system, where access is open to all but depends on the ability to pay. This article focuses on private medical services, the path most commonly taken by visitors and part-time residents of Huatulco.

CLINICS AND HOSPITALS - ONE ROOF, TWO ROLES

In Huatulco, the distinction between a clinic and a hospital is not as clear-cut as it might be in Canada or the U.S. While some facilities operate solely as walk-in clinics, private hospitals also function as clinics where you can consult with a physician, including specialists. This is true for the two private hospitals in Huatulco: Oromed (see FAQ’s below) and San Miguel. In practice, this means you don’t have to think of “clinics” for everyday needs and “hospitals” only for emergencies. Both these hospitals/clinics in Huatulco serve both purposes. For visitors, this can be reassuring: whether you need a routine consultation or urgent care, these private hospitals/clinics are equipped to provide both. There are also private clinics, such as Clínica del Ángel.
